How do I restream on vMix?

vMix is a strong choice when you want a more production-focused Windows switcher. Restreaming from vMix is straightforward: point one stream output at the relay, then let the relay fan the feed out to every destination.

Use a single custom RTMP output

Open vMix streaming settings, choose Custom RTMP Server, and paste the ingest URL and stream key from your Stream Repeater stream page. You only need one of vMix’s stream slots connected to the relay.

If you want the step-by-step UI reference, the vMix guide in our encoder guides section shows the exact settings screens.

Match quality to your upstream

Pick a bitrate and resolution your connection can actually sustain. vMix makes it easy to produce a high-quality feed, but the relay still depends on your upload being stable enough for one stream before it can duplicate it.

Let the relay do the distribution

Add the destinations in Stream Repeater rather than in vMix. That keeps your production workflow simple: one program output from vMix, one upload path, and separate outbound copies handled on the server.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need all three vMix stream slots?

No. One custom RTMP output into Stream Repeater is enough for multistreaming.

Is vMix better than OBS for restreaming?

vMix is better for some production workflows, but restreaming itself works the same way: one encoder output into a relay.
